Learn2Listen

Many people in our churches find themselves in situations of being a listening ear to someone in particular need.  Frequently people feel inadequate and do not know how to handle the situation.  Often they feel as though they have to say something.  Occasionally they say things which with hindsight they regret.  When the Scriptures say, “Let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak” (James 1:19) we need to consider how we can equip people to listen.  It sounds so simple, but in practise many of us find it much easier to be talkers than listeners

This course is an attempt to meet this very real and practical need.  It will be suitable for any Christian who wants to really help others around them.  It will not only give people the opportunity to think through the relevant issues, but also to work through them with hands on (or ears open!) experience.

The course will cover the following areas:

  • What makes a good listener?

  • What is it like to ask for help?

  • What is the purpose/aim of listening?

  • Becoming a better listener

  • What is empathy?

  • Dangers in listening
